i am looking at making a manifold type hop strainer but have read reports of them blocking and a slow run off into the fermenter. will i be better buying the brupaks type one instead or make one the same as this. heard people saying they have put extra slits and also drilled their manifold one but still have problems. which one is best is the answer im looking for.

thanks

do yourself an Aleman style 'hopstopper'.

Instructions Here . . . . I'm considering making a tiny 4" diameter one for my femtobrewery. the 12" versions give amazing run off though :-k

to keep my set up costs low wont i be best to make the same one as the brupaks one. also how do you find using this one does this block up as well seems easy to make - just drill holes.

There is no doubt the mesh hopstopper is very effective, but for a cheaper alternative and one
that most start with make a copper pipe manifold, 22mm pipe is best with 3mm holes. You
should have no problems with blockages

does this manifold stop any cold break material from getting through though or can i just drill finer holes to filter this out.

I think the practice of turning off the heat and letting the hops settle for 30 mins allows them to act as a filter, although I use a counterflow chiller so all my cold break ends up in the fermentor anyway.
