A brew in time for Christmas?

Post by alastair_pk » Mon Nov 03, 2008 11:50 pm

Hi,

I'm new to brewing beer and new to these forums, so hello to everyone.

I just bottled my first brew the other week and I'm looking to see if I get another brew going by the end of the week that would be ready and drinkable by Christmas.

Can anyone suggest a nice brew that will be ready in about six weeks (would prefer something a bit darker however given time constraints will consider anything!)

Thanks.

Pretty much any brew that has an original gravity of 1.040 will be excellent by X-mas, remember the rule of thumb...

1 week for every 10 points of original gravity to get a great brew  of course the longer you leave it the better it will get up tp a certain point and I have no idea what that point is

Thanks for the reply - I wasn't aware of that rule. The first kit I did was brewferm kit which recommends conditioning for 8 weeks so didn't know if a lot of kits were like that.

Coopers Wheat beer is a great kit that takes no time to be very tasty. The last one I made up I added 1 kg of glucose and made up to 17l. After bottling it was clear and very drinkable after 2 weeks. With the addition of some extra hops, some bitter orange peel and corriander seeds this would make a craking beer.
