Muntons Sants's Winter Warmer Yeast?

Post by Robdog » Tue Nov 04, 2008 2:42 pm

Ive just got this kit on but im a little worried about the yeast.

I added it to some pre boiled water that had cooled down to 30. It didnt seem to smell as much as the other yeasts i have used and didnt seem very lively, it just sank to the bottom of the water and stayed there?

Was i wrong to add it as im worried it may not work or does this happen with yeast form tuime to time.

If it hasnt started working in 24-48 hours is there anyway of rescuing it ie adding another sachet fo yeast?

Ive just phoned the HB place and they have told me to go down and they will give me another yeast to sprinkle on so hopefully all should be good.

Well its 5 days now and its been stuck around 1022-1020 for 2 days almost. Ive given it a stir but it hasnt done alot.

Ive ordered some yeast vit and safale s04 but dont think ill get it unitl tuesday at the earliest.

Is it ok to just leave the brew until i get the yeast vit to try? I cant see why not as its covered etc.

Also there doesnt seem to be hardly any sedament at the bottom of the bucket at all and there is 2 packets of yeast in there, i think the one was dud like but still id expect a fair amount of sedament.

It hasnt moved now for 4 days or so. Ive just added a sachet of Safale S04 and 1/2 teaspon of yeast Vit and ill leave for 20 mints then give it a gentle stir.

I just hope this does the trick. Even if i can get it down to 1014 ill be happy.

Move it next to a hot radiator for a few hours. That should kick start it if nothing else will.

Still no sign of life. It looks like there is alot more sedament now in the bottom of the bucket so im wondering if the Safale did anything at all or if its just settled on the bottom straight away.

I will check gravity again tomorrow to see if tis moved but theres no bubbles at all on it as yet. If its still the same tomorrow ill give it one last stir and see what happens.

Can if be bottled if it has stuck at 1022 or is it not safe?

Cant think of anything else to do with it now as i have 3 yeast in there as it is plus yeast-vit.
