Whorst doin' the Landlord!

Well, it's done. Floor malted Golden Promise definitely has some color. 100% floor malted Golden Promise, nothing else.

Hopping is as follows:
57g Fuggles @ 45 min. 3.6% AA%
28g EKG @ 15 min. 5.4% AA%
28g Styrians @ 10 min. 1.9% AA%
28g Stryrians whirlpool when wort's cool
Wyeast 1469

I hit a starting gravity of 1.043, which is exactly what I was looking for. Should be a wonderful beer.

Looking good whorst, did you do any caramelisation?

I didn't caramelize. The color seemed spot on from just the Golden Promise.

Nice pics!

Where did you get floor malted Golden Promise? Is the cost signifcantly different than nonfloormalted? I don't recall my maltser for GP (I think Simpson) but I think it had a color range of 1.7to 2 SRM (for comparison my Crisps MO is 3.5 to 4.5).

Without carmelization do you think you will get the maltiness your looking for?

Your crush looks rather fine compared to mine - What sort of efficiency do you get? I am pretty consistent at 73% (although I was way off my norm for my last brew).

I put aside some Wyeast 1469 for a brown/mild come December.

I get all my malts from Williams Brewing. I believe the cost is significantly higher than non floor malted GP. I paid $2.35 lb. Here's what it says on my bag: "Malted from rich Scottish Golden Promise, this malt is ideal for Scottish ales, and any beer that needs the full maltiness that floor-malted Scottish malt provides. Well modified, and easy to mash at 148F to 156F." It's 3L, so it's got some color. I've used GP before, and don't ever remember it being this dark. I batch sparge, and get a consistent 60% mash efficiency. It may be the design of my mash tun, but I don't care. I'm usually nail my starting gravities, plus or minus a point. The Wyeast 1469 would appear to be an excellent yeast. It activated fast, and there was activity within 2 1/2 hours. I did hit it with about a minute of pure oxygen, that always helps. I'd like to hear from others on what they think of the 1469 and their Landlord style beers.

So far I have been happy with 1469 but haven't had a proper taste yet. Give me a week!
