I went to the Leyland website, (thanks to recommendation here) and have bought a kit!
Hopefully, in a few days I can start mucking about! Seriously mucking about, that is!
Here's the kit:

That barrel will work fine, although you may want to consider getting a cap with a valve for injecting C02 at some point (about £8 IIRR), as Frothy says. I hardly use my C02 cannister - on some beers I've made I've never used it, but if you try and draw off lots of pints in one go the pressure goes. You can open the cap to let more beer out (Wheeler says it's ok), and pressure should build up again once the cap is back on, but I guess you are shortening the life of the beer by exposing it to air by opening the cap.
nevertheless, a nice purchase - great value for money to get you started

They're kits with two cans of malt extract as opposed to just the one as per the kit you have. You can recognise them as the weight on the package is listed at around 3kg and the box is bigger
Tend to cost around £16.
They're much better than the smaller kits as no sugar addition is required, all the fermentables come from the (larger quantity of) malt extract.
