Started my Coopers Euro lager last night.
Used 1kg of Muntons Beers Enchancer and made up to the usual 23 litres.
I checked the SG and it was 1030 expected around 1038-1040, so I banged in a 1/4 of bag of table sugar.
Is it possible SG was low as some of the extract was sitting on the bottom along with some of the Beer Enchancer.
Coopers Euro Lager SG seems a bit low
Re: Coopers Euro Lager SG seems a bit low
Certainly possible, or the enhancer may have clumped up. It's not as bad as pure spraymalt, but it will clump up, and it takes some elbow grease to dissolve it.gullarm wrote:Is it possible SG was low as some of the extract was sitting on the bottom along with some of the Beer Enchancer.
In any case, if you added the extract, the BKE and the sugar, the fermentables are tin here, and the yeast will convert it all into alcohol. Even if stuck to the bottom, they will disperse into the beer over a day or two. It should be okay, but obviously if you try to work out the ABV from the SG you have, you're going to be a bit out...

Re: Coopers Euro Lager SG seems a bit low
I've recently done a Coopers IPA and that had an OG of 1031, which I thought was very low. But it fermented down to 1004 very quickly and it seems potent enough now.
Not that I've been drinking it before it's fully conditioned, of course!

Just check the Grvity and its sitting at 1038 - so the yeast must have lifted the sugar solution up a bit.
Its is brewing very slowly, and I mean a snails pace.
Its in the house, whihc is around 18-19 deg so expected it go faster.

Re: Coopers Euro Lager SG seems a bit low
Hi,
I had this exact thing with the Youngs Lager kit currently in the FV. I had dissolved my BKE in some of the can extract I had washed out into a pan. I hurled it all into the fv and thought I had given everything a good beating. I checked the gravity and got a baffling and almost tear jerking 1030. I thought perhaps it needed more mixing to get the sugar flying about so I thrashed some more and took another gravity and got 1042 so I pitched the rehydrated us-04 and whacked on the lid.
