smithwicks
I am looking to do a smithwicks style beer sweetish and of that colour has any one any suggestions for a recipe that could emulate it ?
Re: smithwicks
Obviously low hop levels, add 57g of chocolate malt to your mash. That will give you the deep color you're looking for. I'd also use White Labs or Wyeast Irish Ale.

Re: smithwicks
Stonechat I would be very surprised if the was any crystal malt in it
Maybe caramelize a small bit of the first runnings but not as much as Scottish ale?

Re: smithwicks
You may be right OB. The recipe comes from the GW book with the European beers in it. I have not done this one, but was just responding to the original post asking for a recipe.
Most of GW's recipes are very close. I can only suggest that this one is tried and following the tasting of the result doing a tweak in the direction required
