Adding Apple Juice To A Brewbuddy Cider Kit

Post by Captain Slackbladder » Wed Nov 12, 2008 8:54 pm

Hi All.
I'm going to start a Brewbuddy Cider Kit for the wife next week. Doing a search on these forums reveal that the result can be a bit wishy washy.
Adding cartons of apple juice is said to improve the flavour.
Can anyone recommend what quantities of brewing sugar and apple juice to use.
Initially I'm going for the 5% version of 23L and 1KG of brewing sugar.
Thanx all

If you replace 11 litres of water with apple juice and cut out any added sugar that should do the trick. Why not cut out the kit and just brew TC using apple juice and cider yeast, it's much better.

The THC i've recently brewed is excellent. As Bryggmester says - if you want 5% you shouldn't need any additional sugar. I made up a finlandia kit with 16 litres of apple and a tin of golden syrup and ended up with a 8.5% monster.

Has anyone got a recipe and instructions for a cider brew without using a kit ? Is it just bog standard apple juice in a carton ? What yeast ? What quantities etc ? Thanks

Up to you.

You can do a Turbo Cider of whatever quantity by just using apple juice and sugar and yeast.

You can do a THC - Turbo Hybrid Cider - with a kit and apple juice and sugar and yeast.

Or you can do a plain cider kit

The reason people tend to do DJ quantities, at least at first, is to perfect their recipes. The type of yeast (Bread, ale, cider, wine, champagne etc..) / quantity of juice / type of juice / type of additional fermentable (sugar, golden syrup, honey etc..) all make a difference to the final product, both in taste and in alcohol level. When I made my first batches I had four different variations on the go side by side. When they were finished they all produced noticeably different ciders.

TC making is more experimental art than science.
