Cask conditioning before bottling

Post by yeasty » Sun Nov 23, 2008 8:29 pm

I've done my 4th all grain today and gone for Horden Hillbilly's house bitter recipe (Thanks Horden). I intend to bottle the brew and my question is I notice that on Hordon Hillbilly's site he recommends cask conditioning for 10-14 days before bottling. This is not something I've done before. Is this generally done before bottling? I am hoping the brew will be ready for Christmas and wonder if this would add a couple of weeks that I don't have.

Just wondered if most people go straight to bottles or always cask condition?

If you want this for Christmas, just leave this brew in your fv for 10 days, then bottle it. I do prefer to let my brews which I intend to bottle to drop bright & mature a little before I bottle them, that is why I give them a secondary for 10-14 days.

Hope that you enjoy my house bitter btw.
