king keg valve
king keg valve
just been given an old king keg but have noticed that there is a bit missing on the valve, its the little silver bit that fits in top of valve .Do I need it rerplacing to start using it cos I've got a brew ready for kegging and cant get a replacement till next week? Thanks Scousebrew
Re: king keg valve
Can't think of what "silver bit that fits in top of valve" you mean, but the following link may be of help to you.
My pesonal advise would be to replace all the seals including the tap seal .
Then test using water and pressure. Don't forget to put vaseline on the threads and cap seal

Re: king keg valve
Cheers for the link ,it seems to be the pin for gas bottle./last time I brewed I didn't need to gas up so do you thinkit will lose mpressure without the pin.
Re: king keg valve
Some of the latest S30 Brass valves have a small pin to use CO2 bulbs but there are no silver pins in the standard brass S30 valves that use the Hambleton Bard S30 gas refills.

Re: king keg valve
I think that pin is used to puncture those poxy little 8gm CO2 bulbs (as seen in the link) most people don’t use those, instead they use the Super 30 cylinders, or the soda stream with a special attachment or a widget system to add their co2.
Will it lose pressure without the pin? Personally I don’t think it will, like I said that pin just punctures those little bulbs (At least I think it does any way)but I am not 100% sure.
Having said that some one on here will be along shortly who does know.

Re: king keg valve
I personally would not ever trust those ridiculous little bulbs again, my latest King Keg came with the new lid complete with this contraption valve, not having time to mess about I kegged up, but now when down to my last few pints every time I try and gas up it p!sses out the side of the adaptor and freezes my hand.
Re: king keg valve
Not having tried the CO2 bulbs I would have thought that you can get more control from the Hambleton Bard S30 gas cylinder where you can gently screw it down on the brass valve until you hear gas going into the keg and then give your brew a quick 1 second burst of gas which is enough to draw a good pint or two off.KevP wrote:I personally would not ever trust those ridiculous little bulbs again, my latest King Keg came with the new lid complete with this contraption valve, not having time to mess about I kegged up, but now when down to my last few pints every time I try and gas up it p!sses out the side of the adaptor and freezes my hand.
Re: king keg valve
Thanks for all the advice on the King Keg valve thingy,I think I might put my hand in me pocket and invest in the other type before I start another brew.I found that if I actually left the brew for 3 weeks without tasting it every other day it kept up pressure all weekend when me an coupla mates had a sesh.Once again thanks for help
