Head/deadspace in FV

I've currently got 24 pint Barley Wine on the go in a 40pint FV, my excellent grasp of mathematics tells me thats a lot of space left over, with air in it, will this affect my brew?

With co2 being heavier than air it will gradually fill up with co2 giving a good cushion against o2 getting in an wrecking your brew
