Recipe in the , funnily enough, recipe section :D

This brew serves three purposes:

1. Replenishes my stocks
2. Show my new, rickety but finely tuned , brewery and how it can be done on a tight budget and with a devil may care how it looks approach
3. Keeps me out of the house - Mrs B-S has a load of mates round for a 'pamper' evening

HLT
Tenko style tower - leftovers
Container - kindly donated
Element - £14 including lead
Tap - £5

MASH TUN
Spinny Sparger £15
Mash Tun cool box - kindly donated
Copper manifold - £10
Drum tap - £5
Mash tun shelf - leftovers + hinges + screws/bolts say £5

BOILER
Boiler £45 ebay shop has them listed quite often (Steve from Kirkby I think - pecoservices)
Hop strainer £10

Total cost £108 of which I am sure you could do for cheaper ( make your own boiler/hop strainer for example) or bucket in a bucket mash tun which must be cheaper. Also HLT tower and mash tun shelf are luxuries and you can do without.

The thing I like about this is the ease of use during the mash ( I never thought I would say that after my first few attempts .....) . It lacks shinyness but I can live with that.

Ooops almost forgot big bertha immersion chiller - well photographed in past so wont bother this time. Cost me about £25 but I believe price of copper has exceeded gold recently...

Will post a report tomorrow

Brew Evening report

Not much to report - new brewery went like clockwork. :D

Mash started at 5pm and all done and dusted before 10pm. The only thing of note is that I tried to adjust the mash PH with gypsum but after putting 2 heaped teaspoons in it was still on the high side so thought better of putting too much in this time round.

Just as well it did go like clockwork as the brother-in-law turned up and for the first time ever I had a brewers assistant. The only trouble being that we were helping ourselves rather generously to the Gem beer sat in the barrel... :D

Just had a peak under the hood and a lovely froth and fantastic waft. Looks like Dave Line has struck gold again. :D

Safely in to the barrel today.

First time I didnt have a taste at this stage ( still recovering from a hangover following a minibus pub crawl with a dozen mates on friday to celebrate surviving 25 years at the same company  ) and will wait for a few weeks. Hopefully the PH adjustments I did havent affected it adversely.

The aroma is fantastic :D

Started at 11:45 am , bus tour finished at 5:30pm. Now that would have been fine but no, I had to stay out and get home just before midnight
Never learn

Sitting down for my first tasting of this brew and WOW :D . A little chill haze but nothing to worry about.

This is the most authentic brew yet and although early days I think it is even better than the eldridge Pope which I thought I would never better.

If anyone is looking for a recommendation for the next brew I would say this one will take some beating.

Dave Line strikes again :D

A very happy Bigster Smurf who may be a little squiffy by the end of the evening

Nice one bigster :D You've certainly got your money's worth out of that Dave Line book

I recall that you mentioned that you didn't return the first runnings when you did the run off (is that right?). As it's turned out so well this has reassured me, as I'm getting pretty sloppy in trying to get 'bright' run offs - ta
