I had to try it... Ditch Stout aka CAS

After all the attention this kit has been receiving I had to give it a go. I bet I'm not the only one who has an FV chugging away with this kit in.

1 Can of extract, 4 litres of pre-boiled water and a bag of DME later. The DME dissolved in an instance no clumping at all.

Topped up and aerated ready for the yeast. The yeast was the darkest yeast I have seen to date with a very distinctive aroma. :)

13 hours later and the blow off tube was blocked and the lid was ready to blow... recon I got home just in time.

The underside of the lid was cleaned and sanitised before being replaced.

Ticking over nicely at 20c. I'm realy looking forward to tasting this beer.

21/12/08: Time to bottle. Fermentaion finished at 1004.
For priming I went for 80g of dextrose dissolved in about a pint of the beer.

Then dropped the FV into another bucket ready to bottle. Much easier dropping the FV this way, rather than using a raking cane.

Cooppers Stout is one of the best kit Stouts I've brewed, extra good when made up with dark spraymalt. 8)

I know Ditch raves on about it, but it really is a good kit.

Just taken a hydrometer reading as the fermentation seems to have stopped... 1.004 after 5 days  . Best get some bottles ready. Those yeasties must have been starving.

SG 1042
FG 1004
5.6% ABV

That's my fastest brew to date. The instructions state 8g of priming sugar per liter, which is the same amount I used for the larger kit I first made. That sounds a lot of carbonation for a stout!! How much sugar do you prime with Sparky?
