yay, brewday again. i haven't brewed so often since i started, thanks to jim's i have been fired up for it.
today i'm attempting a mild for the second time. the first time itried, i'd never tasted mild before and thought i'd brew it myself or never get to drink the stuff. 1st attempt was rubbish, my recipe was poor and the drink came out very weak tasting. after the last LAB meeting and the mild i had there i wanted to give it another go. hopefully this time it tastes better.
i've used the yellow bellied mild on these pages as a guide...
(yet-to-be-named) mild.
2.7kg pale malt
500g crystal malt
100g chocolate malt
100g black malt
single infusion mash (as always for me) at 67c
mash is on the go at the moment so no changes now, committed. i want it to be pretty full in the mouth, sweetish and dark while being not to strong. last attempt had no black malt, to much choco, to little pale and... sugar. ugh...
i'm taking the pictures myself, maybe get some up later...

Have a great brewday, P!
Are you putting any hops in that?
Will there be a bottle or 2 making their way to the next LAB meeting on the 5th Jan at all?

And there's your name for the label: Mild Day, Mild Brew. Look forward to tasting it at LAB

Re: Mild day, Mild brew...
he he he... hops, good idea. forgot to include them on list. 50g of fuggles, 20 EBU's. day has gone well and the sweet wort is now coming to the boil. looks and smells fantastic. i wasn't planning on bottling any of this but i might bring a couple bottle of my Kiwi weisse. the wife sorted out some nice bottles, cleaned and sanitized them ready for me when i got home from work. then she set about making labels and had them done, printed and ready the next day. i'm amazed at how well milk works as glue.
right, nearly time to add the hops, and take some pics...

yay... finished. everything is cleaned and back in the garage and beer is in the FV with some SO4.
ended up with 22l at OG 1036... result.
wife has suggested naming it "Irie mild". since she will probably be cleaning the bottles and making the labels, i'm happy with that... i'll only fill 6 bottles, the rest will go in the keg when it gets drained this week. happy holiday...

Re: Mild day, Mild brew...
so, here are some of the pictures from todays brew. no papps around so no pics of me grinning over my beer. here are the grains that went in

lovely dark 1st runnings. the smell was awesome. reminded me of Maltabella ( a dark malty porridge we were given for breakfast at boarding school)

second runnings were clearly lighter....

my favourite part of the whole process, just after the hops have gone in. smells wonderful...

and into my nice new FV it goes.

and these are the muggs who will be drinking it on new years eve while i try and take their money... maybe i should have made a stronger brew
