Thank you for the heads up. Tip with the £1 coins is good, but I may also save up for a pair of accurate scales.

It's nice to know that for once, someone is shipping me more than I paid for... :)

Look in the housewares aisle at your local supermarket, and you should find what are usually described as 'Diet Scales' for less than a fiver. These weigh 0-500g in 5g increments and are accurate enough for our purposes. I got mine from Morrisons, and the £1 coin trick demonstrates them to pretty much spot on.

Would appear AG#1 will be the only AG. Set myself up for another brewday yesterday as I have a week off and SWMBO was going to be out all day. Set-up caused one hell of a barney; flashing lights, two tone alarms etc.

Although she understands now that brewing is just an escape for me and she is now happy to let me continue, I can't move past the argument and the fact she resents I have an escape and also resents the tiem an AG can take. To keep my relationship and health I'll stick with kits.

So, check the "for sale" section; there's one hell of a bargain going to be posted.

I know how you feel mate, same happend here.
What I do now is, when the kids are in bed, I go to my parents to do some 'paperwork'
I get a mash on, then boil the follwing morning, go out and work for a couple of hours, whilst my dad switches off the boiler after 90 mins (he's retired),
when I get back, chill the wort and pitch - one of the many beniefit of being self employed :)

I've tried to get the Mrs involved, even done some wine kits, she'll drink them, but is just not interested in brewing.
But I can't understand why they have to make things so difficult
