hydro reading
There might be an obvious answer to this but i can't think of one,so here goes is there a reason why with a sanatised hydrometer you can't take the reading from within the fermenting bucket rather than taking a sample out and using the hydrometer jar?

Re: hydro reading
I would say the main reason for not doing this is that you are missing the opportunity to have a sneaky sample of your brew. The best thing about hydro readings is drinking the sample afterwards!fizzypop boy wrote:There might be an obvious answer to this but i can't think of one,so here goes is there a reason why with a sanatised hydrometer you can't take the reading from within the fermenting bucket rather than taking a sample out and using the hydrometer jar?
I take a reading approx every 3 days and I usually end up drinkting the 60ml in the tube and the bit from the syphon tube. then each day until i get a steady reading before barreling
As long as I have sterried the syphon tube there is less chance of contamination by not putting it back. I Just love the taste and how it actually tastes nothing like the one that going to be drunk out of the barrel, but I can tell if I am going to like it.

Possibly easier to clean and easier to take a sample with - Buy a Turkey Baster from you local supermarkey. This is basically like a huge pipette so you can easily take samples. Much easier than using a syphonDoug wrote:I take a reading approx every 3 days and I usually end up drinkting the 60ml in the tube and the bit from the syphon tube. then each day until i get a steady reading before barreling
