abit of help needed
im having a bit of a problem with a Coopers Mexican Cerveza Beer, i followed the instructions with this kit to the T, sprinkled the yeast supplied onto the wort and nothing at all had happened after 24hrs so i rehydrated a lager yeast sf-04 and poured it in then checked again after another 24hrs.yes you guessed it nothing. the wort is at a constant temp 18-22oc with the aid of a heat belt.
has any Knowledgeable brewer got any idea's as im a newbie and havent got a clue!!!

Re: abit of help needed
My blackrock whitbier didn't do anything for about 36-48 hours...then it took off like a rocket, maybe its just taking its time to get up and running, or perhaps it IS doing something and you havn't noticed?

Re: abit of help needed
it if that is the case what would be repercussions of me adding this extra yeast??
Re: abit of help needed
It probably wont affect it unduly, Just means there is more of em to convert that sugar to the good stuff

Re: abit of help needed
I started this kit on wednesday night. By last night it has started fermenting nicely.
Not sure what could have cause you any problems. Did you just sprinkle the yeast ontop or did you stir it in?

how do you add your yeast, do you rehydrate or just sprinkle?
Re: abit of help needed
i find the best thing to do with yeast is to rehydrate it, about 1-2 hours before the brew stick it in a small jar (sterilised) with a bit of warm water - not too warm, body temp is fine (i add a little glucose to get it going). If it is clearly mulitplying when it comes to pitching you know its viable and will go when you pitch.
i find it hard to believe that 2 lots of yeast were duds, especially SO4. hows it going now?

Re: abit of help needed
Rehydrating dried yeasts can actually be a bad thing, there is a thread on it somewhere. I personally have never had a problem just chucking in S04 or Nottingham mid way through filling the fermenter from the boiler or if doing a kit just giving it a damned good stir in.
Re: abit of help needed
I'm a sprinkler and a stirrer myself, only done 4 kits mind and all have started fermenting ok.
Re: abit of help needed
