A best with Northdown

Post by Mauri » Mon Jan 19, 2009 1:54 pm

I've recently acquired 200g of Northdown from mctoon and I thought it's time to put some of it to good use, so I was wondering if I could use it for a basic Pale/Crystal/t.wheat best bitter. How would it work as a single hops brew with Northdown both as bittering and aroma hops? Or would it be best to use different aroma hops? I have Fuggle, EKG and Challenger available. Oh and some Willamette
I'm still trying to work out the differences between hops and how they work together.

thanks Mal,
I suppose a single hop beer is a good way to really get a feel for the hops. :D I think I'll go that way.

I agree, single hop brew with northdown wonder is a sublime pint. I am drinking mine now, its not 100% clear yet but so what. Nice citrus bite to it and improved noticeably over the past 2 days even though its still young. Glad i bottled some as the keg ain't gonna last to allow the beer to fully mature.
2.00 kg Pilsner (2 Row) UK (1.0 SRM) Grain 44.44 %
1.00 kg Vienna Malt (3.5 SRM) Grain 22.22 %
1.00 kg Wheat Malt, Ger (2.0 SRM) Grain 22.22 %
0.50 kg Torrified wheat 11.11 %
1 oz northdown (60 min)
0.5 oz northdown (10 min)
0.5 oz northdown (5 min)
1 Pkgs Abbey Ale (White Labs #WLP530)

Depends on the alpha of the hops. Marc's were 7.5% in the book.
