what can i do to add more body to my kit brews???? have done a few now & they seem to lack body, compared to pub/ bottled beers. we add between 80-100g of sugar to beer (40 pint) before we bottle or keg. is this enough??? not sure how we came to that figure but i know it was written down somewhere on 1 of our early kits

do a search on here for the benefits of spray malt

basically substituting the sugar for the same quantity of spray malt from any homebrew store will do exactly that and transform your kit !

otherwise by a more expensive 2 can kit - the 3kg ones, you should also notice a difference there too, much more like a pub pint

:D

Is it mouth feel as in carbonation you are after or maltiness?

for maltiness as it is a kit you will find it hard to get near pub style maltiness, but you could try a lower attenuating yeast that might help, I believe muntons are supplying their kits with one  (joke re stuck fermentations).

for carbonation you should have it bang on with 80g

have been using 2 can kits, most of the time. single can kits are a lot "body less" & i have used a youngs bke with each single can kit. i also have used brewing sugar instead of table sugar. the best kit for body was our first & it was made in september when the weather was warmer. we have tried bringing the beer in from the cold a day or 2 before trying them as well but still lacking in body. we live in a hard water area but have used bottled water & campden tablets. the beers aint bad just a bit "bodyless" head is also good most of the time

the single can kit, an ipa type, was the worst for no body. i had a pint & half the other nite & could really feel it. so we must be doing something right

christ!!! i managed to upload a pic. that was our first attempt at hb. it was a woodfordes great eastern. very nice too, once we left it to mature.
another thing i have just thought of is that we have been advised that it is ok to leave in the fv for upto 2 weeks, which we have done a few times & have never left for less than 7 days. my friend always takes a hydrometer reading & they are always around what they should be. even all the woodforde kits
