If I'm sticking with kits until the Junior Foreman and Chief Taster are both of school age I need to learn how to improve them.
Thanks to Chris' (the p1ss-artist previously known as DaaB) advice I will try dry hopping this kit in the FV; however, bearing in mind the Munton's stick, do I ditch the supplied yeast in favour of safale 04? Or do I use the yeast and risk having to put up with a) high FG sweet ale or, b) dry beer enzyme and week tasting ale?

Hmmm, One of the Smears and one of them Wipes...?
Depends on the use I suppose

Re: Munton's Gold - Old English Bitter
No problem at all with this kit. Fast, strong ferment with nothing added other than the yeast supplied with the kit. The beer is in the Corney for a few more days, but an early sample promises well.

Never even considered extract brewing: went from kit to AG and, if it wasn't for the marital, would still be planning further AG. However, if extract is a good "half-way house" it could be worth a poke. I'm sure there was a site out there with good insight into extract as well as kit and AG; 18000 something or other...Chris-x1 wrote:btw as you already have the kit, have you considered extract brewing ? You can turn out an extract batch in 2-3 hrs and it'll be much easier to tailor ro your requirements. (and if time is tight you can allow the wort to cool over night and pitch in the morning as long as you don't mind a little haze).

I'll investigate, see how it fits with SWMBO (have to keep her on-side, beer is nice, regular nookie is nicer and another marital isn't going to happen over HB) and then experiment - thanks!

Makes a lot of sense to me; thank you. Will be sorry to see your site go but the info is at least now included in Jims.
Am one of the poor souls who has a pending order with Amazon (bl00dy company, why do I keep using them?) although am debating cancelling that order and bunging one through my Camra membership. We'll see what the weekend brings!
