Well i've been talking about the idea, and last night i worked out some christmas brew ideas and thought i better make a start.
Edme Irish Stout with Black Treacle is now in the fermenter:
Edme Irish Stout Can
Black Treacle Tin (454g)
1kg Light Spray Malt
Yeast Nutrient
Made up to just over 25 litre mark.
O.G. 1.044 (4 points over the same recipe without the black treacle)
Had to stir like the devil to get it all dissolved but the workout was good and its my second kit i have managed start to finish in about an hour.
Once this one is done i am bottling in PETs for Christmas.
I have one keg emptying so best plan so far is a Wherry two tin i have about to give a lighter alternative to the stout.
Then i am thinking about a lager (probably Coopers) with a beer enhancer 1kg and 454g of honey as the body worked out well last time with the beer enhancer and the honey is something i want to play with. (also to be bottled).
Will add updates to this thread.

Edme Irish Stout with Black Treacle (and Christmas ideas)
Update: Edme Irish Stout with Black Treacle
Two weeks in the fermentor and wasn't shifting under 1.018 so bottled in 2ltr PETs. Primed with white sugar and going to give it a month in the warm and then until December in the cool.
The stout and treacle tastes were about equal but not blended as of bottling. Hoping that they merger better in the bottle over time.
I still have strong hopes for this brew and look forward to drinking it.
Today's Brew: Coopers Lager with Honey
Coopers Lager Kit
500g Spraymalt
500g Brewing Sugar
454g Honey
O.G. 1.042 and planning to prime with Honey and put in 2 litre PET's

Update:
Wel this tuff is fizzy, easy to lose half a bottle when opened first time. As they are in pets i let a lot of pressure out of the batch after learning my lesson. Now it is still lively but the yeast doesn't end up so thoroughly mixed. It tastes fine but the treacle dominates the stout a little too heavily. Next time round i would reduce the treacle amount to half or less what i used this time : }
If you don't try then you won't find out : }

Re: Edme Irish Stout with Black Treacle (and Christmas ideas)

Only, I always have Black Strap Molasses to hand. I use it in my tea. One time ~ 'Live', on here ~ I decided to try some in a pint of Guinness, with a view to trying some out in a brew of Coopers Stout. As I use a tea spoon of the stuff in my tea, I believe I remember I used the same in twice as much (a pint of) Guinness.
What a f*cking disaster!!!

Obviously, I'm Not suggesting a bloke of your experience shouldn't experiment. Just pointing out that black on black can be hair raisingly potent ~ as ye've just discovered.
Definitely one to be treated with the utmost caution.

Don't tell Ditch but I put 454g of black treacle in a coopers stout
It's taking a while to blend in
