Flat TC
Flat TC
I made up a cherry and apple TC the other week, racked it off after about a week left for a couple of days in second demi then added more aj and bottled. I bottled it up sunday i think.
Cracked one open yesterday and its flat. Theres a very slight PSH when i open it but no bubbles.
I have to say im a but disapointed altho it still tastes quite nice an has a really nice colour, almost like a rose wine.
Do you think it will get anymore fizz? I spose i did open it a bit early.
They are stored quite cold too so maybe thats a problem. I might pop one in a warm spot for a day or 2 an see if that kick starts the conditioning.

Re: Flat TC
A week in the warm to carbonate then 2 to 3 weeks in a cool area to bottle condition.
Re: Flat TC
i stick mine beside a radiator for a week then in the cold. sometimes it works, sometime it doesnt...
Re: Flat TC
how much aj did you prime with? i always add 1 litre to the four in the dj and have always had plenty of fizz, appart from a couple of bottles which the lids were dodgy on.
Re: Flat TC
I add a litre of AJ to prime.
I put one in the warm an then tried it after a few days still not much fizz. I think In my efforts to clear it by racking off ive left it too long in the secondry an there wasnt enough yeast to do the job.
never mind, its still drinkable.

Re: Flat TC
I primed my cherry-apple with Tate & Lyle; left it a week in the boiler room (averages 19 degrees) and then outside in the shed. It's not flat but theres a disting lowering of the carbonation over my other TCs.
Could it be the cherries?

Re: Flat TC
I bottle em up in glass bottles an cap em. I dont think it was the cherries as it was just cherry juice.
I cracked one open last nite and it was a bit fizzier than the other day. So with any luck the remaining ones will have fizzed a bit more. Not that its a problem its still a really nice drink, really refreshing. Not as sour as TC just made with AJ which is pretty good.

Re: Flat TC
Did the juice have sodium metabisulphite in or some similar preservative? That could kill of the yeast, stopping the priming from working.randomdave wrote:I dont think it was the cherries as it was just cherry juice.
I bottled some turbo cider yesterday, but I only used half a teaspoon per pint bottle... I'm a little worried this won't be enough now

Re: Flat TC
No, checked the label before using mine; cherries, water, sugar. Plus, sod-met would have stopped fermentation let alone priming.
Drinks fine though, just still.
