Before I leave you for the evening, how long should it be before I check the SG again?

When pitching a second yeast is it best to re-hydrate, do a starter or simply sprinkle it on the surface? :?

It's been sprinkled, quite expertly, on the surface of the mixture (should I really be saying 'wort'?). Again, should I worry?

Hi Daab, should I be referring to the 'wort' at this stage?

So it was wort before?

Well, it's two days since I added the safale. Here's a pic I just took:

Am i reading that hydrometer correctly? I believe it says 1020.

The top of the wort/beer is all fuzzy with the new yeast added.

Ideas? Too early to tell? It's been well over a week since I started this brew.

Yes, it may have moved a little. I'll look again in two days' time.

Yes, Daab, there's that surface tension to be wary of - can appear to give a false reading.

This beer making is :-({|= so stressful! :D

and so time passes...

Just checked the Sg and it's reading a very definite 1020 - best it's been, but nowhere near the 1014 on the packet.

What should I do:

1) Wait another 24 hours and check again?
2) Wait 48 hours and check?
3) Wait 48 hours and one second and check, and if no SG movement pour the blooding thing down the drain?

Keg it,leave it(approx 3 weeks),drink the bloody lot  and in the mean time brew some more

On your next brew use safale-04 or any ale yeast that is supplied in a 10-11gram sachet,or 2 packs of gervin ale yeast(6grams each) and that will give you a higher yeast count to begin with.Make sure you aerate the wort well before hand.
Hope the next brew is good to you 8)
