 That's sacrileges!!! I can only hope that Murphy's must be astronomically good ~ because I'd hate to imagine Any Coopers Stout being anything like Guinness :(

Heh, heh, methinks you're not a Guinness fan...!

By the by, the 560IBU apparently isn't a typo - Paul assured me that that's the IBU's in the canned concentrate and it's up to us to water it down to the desired level, based on volume. It's all good in theory, but what happens when we add 1kg of spray malt???

They talk about it on their website. http://coopers.com.au/homebrew/hbrew.php?pid=4

Cheers,

well played chaps!

just tried my first coopers stout, (a.k.a "ditchs stout") after only 5 days in barrel. The taste was very pleasent, and through my limited experiance this should turn into a true cracker!

much much better than the edme irish stout already!

:( It genuinely hurts, to think of a man trying for that last drop of his, beloved Coopers Stout ..... and finding it not only 'gone', but ' gone over'. Never happened to me yet. Because I use a crafty - and very careful - system of propping the back of the keg, as the level reaches critical. I ease her up onto 1/2" thick pieces of wood. Always putting the last under before I give it up for the night. This, I find, leaves that last bit to settle out. Thus the very last bit I drain from my (Basic) kegs tastes great.

Strikes me ye need more kegs?! Basic's are cheap .....

good tips ditch when it gets down to a few litres will find a sheltered spot for the keg and give a wee slanting towards the tap then i can get the last glass full out :D
my second batch with the dark lme smell goood. been in the fv 6 days ,getting very itchy kegging fingers  but will be patient and check fg on sunday and if same monday ...bish bash bosh in the keg it goes.
there was plenty of kanka at the bottom of the keg i am guessing normal after the secondary ferment?!
just bought some coopers ipa for my mate to do ,well i will go and do it at his house and some real ale for me with extra hops will bottle this one then get some more stout on the go for the kegging .i think more kegs is the order of the day. might have to work away in wales soon so need to get a few kegs on the go to take with me and brew in my digs of course.
i guess this coopers stout is like a dog or a baby did not know what you where missing but now ...cant see your self not with it ,if you get my meaning.. i think its the landlord talking had a few down the workies this aft . laters stout lovers glyn

the fg was 1020 thought it might have gone lower than that but not to worry not too worried about strength as long as it tastes good and i think it will.
it as as black as t"fire back!! :D
will leave to the weekend before having a taste
only because i have picked up some sort of bug and off food and obviously beer wont help...bugger :(

Mine has been conditioning in the loft since the 25th of jan, I've been steadily working my way through it and Ive found that the flavours are less complex now. It's still very nice but it has lost some of it's chocolate hints and some of it's richness. It is in a king keg top tap, when I topped up the co2 it gave it a bit more life but I still prefer how it tasted when it was very young. Has anyone else found this? Any ideas? Someone metioned that theirs was much better after a month.

On the plus side this means I don't have to wait too long for more!

sorry guys being a wuss but filling the sink up at 2 in the morning is not my idea of fun, and all the sympathy i got from the bedroom was"i hope thats not my toothbrush your using to clear the plug hole" :(

back to things going down and staying down:
i thought that after a week in the keg when it had nicely cleared ,how could it get any better , then there was very subtle changes in flavour until the last mouth full about a week later.
i think it is very nice young , cant comment on the taste when matured ,i doubt i will ever know
i drank a lot of it flat as i filled 2 litre bottles up to transport to various places and it still tasted fantastic only one comment about needing a bit of life in it,but that was a woman
all i can say is roll on sat when i can taste this new batch ,might even have a sneaky peak on the morrow :P

having a little sample and its very chocolatey to say the least. when you smell it its like when your a kid and you have eaten all you chocs and sit sniffing the box for an hour or two!!
has a strong burnt iron like after taste that lingers but i reckon that will calm down a bit ,its only been in the keg 2 days since wed night!! very dark but not cloudy .
i think its a definite winner this one  will leave to mature a bit longer i reckon ,well at least until tomorrow ha

Just the basic Coopers Stout, mate. People dealing with the Brewmaster version tend to mention that and use other threads for their discussions. Quite a different thing, apparently. I've no personal experience of CBMS myself so I don't get involved
