So, it's been a while since the rebirth of Milestone under the auspices of Muntons. Milestone seem to have been recognised as one of the better kits available, but I guess we're all aware of the issues surrounding Muntons / Woodfordes. Hopefully there are enough home brewers out there who have tried the relaunched kits to be able to give us a report on the results. Are they still good? Or have they gobe down hill? I'm interested in giving them a try so any reports would be interesting.

A bit late for Christmas is exactly what I thought when I got the email!
It seems they are still thinking a decent brew is to be had in three weeks [-X

Now a few months have passed can anyone review the Milestone kits? any problems 'munton' related?

Would be keen to hear if these are ok kits as wouldn't mind getting a couple on to stock up for summer.

I've recently done a couple of batches of Crusader and an IPA. The Crusader was good, if slightly subdued, the IPA is conditioning so I'll be happy to report back in a few weeks. There were certainly no problems with stuck fermentation and everything proceeded smoothly. At £17 a throw they were good. but not significantly better than the £9 Burton's Summer Ale 1 can kit I recently enjoyed. I'm planning on going beyond kits, so I probably won't be buying any more.

clatters, any word on the ipa? i just whacked one in the fv at the weekend and was wondering how its going to turn out. only problem i had with it was the og came at at 1035ish (meant to be 1040) even though i shortened the brew length to 21 litres. any ideas? it was definitely 20 degrees ish when i measured the gravity.

I've been drinking it. I can't say that I'm a fan. There's nothing wrong with it as such, it's just not my type of beer. It's relatively dark, with a fruity undertone and a lingering sweetness, possibly too much sweetness. I am certain that I got the right amount of sugar in for the secondary ferment.

If you like that sort of thing then you'll enjoy, and I hope that you do. I'm afraid that I'm not expert enough to understand why it started at 1035. Mine was definately 1040. Possibly there is significant variation in the kits?

I've just kegged my Milestone Lion's Pride. No problem with stuck fermentation but it did take 13 days to get down to and stop at 1.010. The target was 1.009 so I'm happy with that. It got down to around 1.018 in about a week and then dropped about .001 per day after that. Temperature was right on the lower edge of the range at 18C so that might explain the leisurely fermentation.
Best wishes

I did a milestone home wrecker a while back and think its one of the best kits I have done so far. The fermentation was a bit problematic but mainly because it was during the cold snap, so keeping the FV above 15 degrees was tricky during the day and night.

Now 12 or more weeks after bottling I love it. It doesn't have the homebrew twang some of my lagers had and I will definitely do it again. Its a dark ale like a porter though, so probably better for a winter warmer than a summer brew.

Hi,
I have done Crusader kit and despite it being only my 2nd attempt at brewing it has turned out remarkably good, much better than the 1st Tom Caxton real ale although i only used white sugar in that and it had that TANG that everyone goes on about (still drank it tho lol). The crusader is still a bit early to be at its best only bottled for about 2 weeks but i already love it and is comparable to some shop bought ales.

P S Had no stuck fermentation with it and it got down to 1012 b4 i bottled it and as corbonated lovely.
