RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
so, woodfordes norfolk ales nelsons revenge, i think i [censored] up.
i did the warming of the cans as the instructions said, i then added the 6 pints of boiling water - but WHOOPS!
instead of then adding the 30 pints of cold, i just stirred until it was all liquid, realised my mistake ran upstairs
with the big bucket thing and into the bath-scraped a load of black scum off the tap with the barrel-could believe that
bit i went mental, bul then managed to catch the black scum sort of and fill it up to the line with the cold and mix some more
with my (??cleanish??) bare arm!, i then add the yeast and it sits on top of the foam soooooooo i give it a bit if a stir again
with my menacingly clinically clean arm till its all mixed in (kill me now is it?) pop the lid on and into the cupboard where its
hovered at 18 and just below till this evenin when i brought it out into the bedroom to warm up to 21.. the lid had swelled
but i still could resist a peek and looked a bit like beer although darker than it looks on the box..they couldve had a light
shinin on that one though or even used a pint of piss just for the photo.. god help me where did i go wrong????
please shall i just bin this brew off now?
i bet homegrown is easier than homebrew this is ridiculous there is sooo much to remember

Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
Well, I've read that a couple of times and I can honestly say I have no idea what you are saying.
What exactly went wrong?

Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
No, don't chuck it! Whilst your method was, shall we say, 'unusual', it may well turn out fine. Leave it alone and see what happens.
Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
your supposed to add 6 pints of boiling followed by 30 pints of cold and then mixboingy wrote:Well, I've read that a couple of times and I can honestly say I have no idea what you are saying.![]()

i did six pints of boiling, mixed........... ... .. ..... ...................added possibly a tad of bath tap scum followed by 30 pints of cold,
then mixed......
Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
i'm concerned i mayve burnt it with the long boil... and infected it with bath tap scum
Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
You can't 'burn' it and what you did sounds like exactly what you should have (minus sticking the arm in and stuff).
Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
Ah, I understand. That will be fine I think although the bath tap scum is not ideal!
Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
It will possibly end up being the best tasting beer he's ever had and he will be trying to faithfully repeat the procedure on his next brew, complete with bath scum.

Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
Meh sanitization is over rated.
Nah seriously tho id just let it do its thing an see how it turns out, If you ditch it now you will always wonder if it would have been ok.

Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
thanks peeps, its bubblin away nicely still after 6 days so looks good anyway!!!!!!

Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
I`ve experimented with a couple of different additions but I`ve never looked at using bath scum before. I think I`d rather use it after initial fermentation had died down so that I manage to keep more of the flavour.

Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
i felt sick to my stomach wen it happened. twas proper black sludge, i think, god i frickin hope that i managed to stop any droppin actually into the brew but it definately touched the side and imagine theres the odd germ knockin about in sludge
Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
Just follow the simple instructions that came with you kit....you don't have to remember anything.PEZ wrote:

If you can't make a beerkit I presume you find it difficult to make a cup of tea
Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
apologies for being a dumbass. i've had years of practice at making tea, its new skills i find hard to learn generally...Dill wrote:Just follow the simple instructions that came with you kit....you don't have to remember anything.

Re: RECIPE FOR DISASTER?
No apologies necessary and you’re obviously not a dumbass, as you can make tea and read. Just sit down with a nice cup of tea that you have made and read through the beer kit instructions a few times before you actually start to make it and all should be well.PEZ wrote:apologies for being a dumbass. i've had years of practice at making tea, its new skills i find hard to learn generally...Dill wrote:Just follow the simple instructions that came with you kit....you don't have to remember anything.

If there is any part of the instructions that you don’t quite get, post your query on here and someone will put you right.
Apologies to you if you thought I was insinuating that you were a dumbass, I was just trying to say "If you can make a cup of tea, you should be able to make a beer kit"
