all of mine has now done its duty and is no more. I've gone over to grain now but might consider doing another Grand Cru, just so I don't have to wait 3 years for a grain version to mellow.

Ive had this kit int he FV for 6 days now - it started at 1070 but its only gone down to 1018/1020....

Its been stable for 24hrs at that gravity so im wondering should i just bottle it now?

I added 550G of candy sugar for the fermentables - any advice? Should i leave it till next week just to make sure?

I added a little yeast vit after day 3 just to make sure things went as far as they could...

Cheers!

Well thought id update - the grand cru came out OK in the end. Ended up at 7.3% alcohol, and quite a dark colour.

Definietely NOT golden as some others have reported... is this just due to "old LME" cans? Every time i brew with LME in kits i get darker beer than expected (pilsners included).

Pleased it came out okay for you - cannot comment on the colour though; although mine came out a light brown/dark yellow.
Let us know how it drinks? Mine disappeared really quickly...

Its got a bit of a twang to it - ive also just done the wheat beer from brewferm and this tastes practically identical only a little lighter in colour and maybe less body to it.

Dunno if this is the effect of using candy sugar?

Its maybe "cidery"... and the wheat beer should definitely not be any where near the taste of the grand cru.

My Grand Cru had a twang also. I used Tate & Lyle though.

Im thinking this would benefit from using extra light DME instead of sugar.

How long have you conditioned the beer for? Mine still had the twang after 8 weeks cold conditioning.

Mine's been in the bottle since September 2008, so just over 4months. Still the twang! It is crystal clear though.
I was thinking the same. Maybe half & half DME/Sugar.
I know it's reccomended to use just sugar to counteract the high levels of malt but I think a wee experiment won't hurt!

Well ive just started a brupaks brewrs choice pilsner, all dry kit.

I wont be using sugar in any of my brews in future, just a waste of money.

Roll on extract brewing!
