EDME Irish Stout alcohol content Question

Hi guys i have just whipped up some EDME Irish Stout in my fermenting bin but substituted the sugar for beer enhancer

the kit is supposed to brew to 4.5%

made it up to 35 pints instead of the full 40

got an OG reading of 1040. if i throw some regular sugar in i.e. 100g. will this bump it up to 5%

is there a general rule or way of upping the alcohol content

i do appologise if its a daft question but new to this brewing but cant get enough of it its amazing
