refilling a keg - the lazy way?

Hi All

I'm a lazy b'stard at heart I was wondering, my keg of Dark Ale is getting close to the bottom is there any reason why I can't save a lot of time and effort by just brewing another batch and siphoning it into the same barrel without emptying/cleaning/sterilising it. In my mind the interior should still be sterile as never been opened and the dregs in the barrel should add a 'mature' flavour to the next batch.

Is this false logic and doing this will result in 40 pints of rancid piss, or does this sound like a cheats way to save an hour or so of 'woman's work' cleaning the thing that can be better spent in front of the TV

oh well, i thought I would at least ask, honestly didn't think it was a sensible idea but had 4pints of IPA so typed without really thinking. In November I completely buggered my back sterilising an FV and its still not perfect 4 months later. So any chance to save shaking containers of sterising fluid every so often for ten minute the better. Got a few weeks before I need to refill the keg so i guess I will just have to grin and bare it

lazy twat, you're probably about right - work too hard at work so am overly lazy when not working, could challenge a sloth for inactivity at the weekend

I can be very lazy where beers involved, but only in drinking it, hardly moved all evening and have imbided quite a few, and I'm thinking of having a few more before the night is out

well surely you have to get up periodically to get a re fill?

thats exercise in itself - but not much.
i meant that when it comes to the making of the liquid gold, a man shouldnt cut corners.

well I started the evening quite active going out to the garage to get a refill, but its got to the point where the bottle of whisky is easier and closer (within reach). I agree that no effort should be spared in the brewing process. I've been so impressed with my brewing skills (its all been drinkable) so far I am willing to put the effort in to get it right, so I guess once the keg is empty its cleaning and sterilsing time before refilling it (just looking for a bit of a cheat). Luckily I've got an IPA and of Bitter in kegs at the moment and I ordered another keg to put some stout into tonight, so I guess I will have a garage almost full of brew so taking some time out to clean a keg before re-filling shouldn't be too much of a chore

1/ Get a Cement Mixer and a Continental Quilt.

2/ Line 'Mixer with quilt.

3/ Insert keg.

4/ Introduce sanitising solution of choice to keg.

5/ Switch on 'Mixer at proscribed time intervals.

F*ckin' Easy!


Seriously though; My own back 'going out' put paid to my own will to stand there, sloshing bloody kegs about. Just take it easy and use ye arms. Keep ye back stiff and let ye biceps take the strain. No worries.

Realise also that a hose pipe can remove most visible muck. Then just push the keg over, to drain.

And it also, normally, takes only a relatively small amount of 'solution', tossed about, to sanitise. Ye don't need to man handle four gallons of 'water', just to get a keg ready
