Stocks getting very low on account of not brewed since early October last year. :(
This is my first non British brew for over 15 years.
I had a mixed case of Dunkel Weisen from Beers-of-Europe for crimbo so this one had to be done.

Only problem so far is the soddin' mash screen coming adrift from the ball valve, again.
Another 30mins to go on the mash so we then start the 'bailing out' process so the mash screen can be refitted, then refill the mashtun and then strain.....

First job after the brew will be to drill out a new brass tank connector and replace the existing one.

 HERMS still not fired up. Must do a test run with water sometime to figure out how my dad wired the control panel and config the PIDs.

Mike - butterfly valve was disassembled and cleaned. Refitted, all fine, even with hot wort.
I can only think it was the hot caustic solution that caused the rubber to swell and jam the butterfly.

Just checked the brew and its farting good already (blow-off tube in demijohn of water).

It's a dark wheat beer rather than a lager - ale according to the Reinheitsgebot. Mix brought some to the April LAB meeting (I think). It was a clovey, spicy one, very nice, so heading towards the Black Forest instead of Bavaria in style

Thanks,
Can you or anyone recommend a good light colour German lager, that's not over difficult for a first attempt at lagers?
