super quick Geordie fermentation

Post by chuke » Sun Feb 22, 2009 4:47 pm

Just wondered if this sounds normal. Bought a Geordie yorkshire bitter kit from wilkos on thursday and made it up that day. I thought i would give it a go at spicing it up a little so i added 50g crushed roasted barley & 50g crushed crystal malt to 2.5l water at 65oC. I then added 10g of fuggles and boiled for 40mins. Put the kit & 1kg of gerordie beer enhancer in the fv with 3l boiling water and then banged in the hopy water with a tea spoon of treacle, stired and took it up to 21l with cold water and chuked in the yeast.

I have been fermenting since dinner time on thursday @ constant 22oC day and night. OG 1048 and by 9pm it had a nice head and bubbling away. yeasterday the head had subsided and the bubbling hadstopped took a FG of 1010. Today i took a FG and it was still at 1010.

Does this seem a bit quick and is it ok to put into secondary if the reading is the same either tonight or early tommorrow morning. Do the extra ingredients sound ok or was i ambitious but rubbish?

Cheers.

It does sound quick for a kit but not unheard of. I would say your additions should be good. If your reading is the same tomorrow I would leave it for 3 days then put it in the secondary.
