Hello all.
I am enjoying my new batch of home made larger presently. Coopers - and its much better than then economy stuff that came with the kit!!!
Anyway, this time the only differance really in brewing etc was I used a bag of proper brewing sugar as per instruction - followed after by the necessary amount of priming sugar.
Now this larger is too fizzy. Its fine when I open a bottle. No different that shop larger but when its in the glass it fizzies like mad.
Why so? Is it the brand, is it the kilo of brewing sugar that does it? I only put in the correct amount of priming.
Whats going on ?????????

My beer is too fizzy
Re: My beer is too fizzy
i have the feeling you have over primed my friend but only slightly,i did this once, the bottles opened fine and the head was normal but at the bottom of the glass the bubbles were swirling angrily which made it like pop and extremely gassy...by the way how did you prime how much and wot did u use
Re: My beer is too fizzy
id have to check the paperwork . i used normal household sugar and from memory a level teaspoon in the bottle befor filling. thats what it worked out at for the 750ml bottles. thats about right isnt it?
Re: My beer is too fizzy
The recommendation is half a level teaspoon per 500ml or pint bottle so I reckon you were a bit heavy on the priming sugar.Portisheaddan wrote: and from memory a level teaspoon in the bottle befor filling. thats what it worked out at for the 750ml bottles. thats about right isnt it?

Re: My beer is too fizzy
Is your brew a fizzy as the one my son did?
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget
Re: My beer is too fizzy
portisheaddan i would suggest priming in a bottling bucket it is so much easier, priming every bottle can be a bit hit or miss and you get an even carbonation across ya brew..you might know this but if you dont..dissolve between 75 to 90 gram [you,ll find your prefered amount after a brew or two]in boiled water, zap in microwave leave to cool for a bit add to bottling bucket, syphon ya beer in ,bottle from there but you could just add to fv and gently stir in if ya want mate
Re: My beer is too fizzy
I have a youngs definetive bitter in my cellar and that has come out really fizzy. In fact when i opened the first bottle I tried to syphon into a jugIt was so lively it wouldn't syphon and the beer turned to froth. But Ive over come this problem by releasing pressure fom cap and then leaving outside in the cold for a few hours with a loose cap.Seems to have done the trick ,it syphons great with a lovely thick head. The beers not the best but it was onlt £6.99 from wilko .I used a bag of bke so I wouldn't recomend using just sugar with it
