too hot ferment..

Post by brysie » Sat Feb 28, 2009 2:18 pm

hi all

got a muntons continental pilsener on the go and its done a bit of a `ditchs stout` on me ,
made up exactly as the kit says...
only problem is that in a room thats at 20 degrees, me brew is getting up to 23/24 degrees.
i was wondering if i could sanitise an icepack and drop it in or has anyone got any other suggestions please?
i dont really want to start moving it around if i can help it.

turn the heating off, open a window or door, the other residents of the house should understand, it is after all beer.....

Just a thought but if the ambient is 20c are you sure your brewing thermometer is accurate? is your ferment any faster than usual?

im brewing in thaialnd and as you can imagine its really hot here. ive been rapping my f.v in wet towels and keeping jugs of water in the fridge and pouring them over the f.v as much as i can. usually 4 or 5 times a day. it seems to work for me.

thanks for replies folks

alefric i use tropical fishtank thermometers on my fv`s so im pretty sure theyre accurate. i had this problem before with another kit and i think its just the yeast doing its job really well.

sam that sounds like a lot of work to me. :D

i sanitised a freezer pack last night and chucked that in and its sitting at 22 now so fingers crossed.
i really must copy jims idea and hook up a small fridge and heater to my brewing cabinet with a hi-lo temp controller.
i put a wherry on last night as well so probably wait til these two have finished before making a mess.
