Help - drip on my tap

Help!

I've just barrelled my Coopers Stout today (a bottom tap Youngs 5 gallon pressure barrel) - all went well until I'd finished and settled the barrel in the garage when I noticed a very small drip coming from the outside O ring of the tap assembly. This is my first brew and I had smeared the pressure cap with vaseline but didn't think to do the same to the flippin' tap #-o . I've tightened it as much as I can by hand and also smeared it with vaseline - it's definitely improved the situation but a small amount of my precious brew is intent on finding it's way out.

I've got another barrel - do you think I should simply decant it into there and be done with it? (Having this time tightened and vaselined the tap) I'm just a bit worried about too much disturbance to the brew in one day

Any advice?

cheers

Cam

Hi Chris-X1

thanks for your tip - it worked! I managed to get another few turns using the tea towel and the drip's stopped. I've also taken off the vaseline I'd smeared on the joint and all is well!

Phew! =D>

That's the benefit of having some experience about when you need it!

Chris - I'd normally offer to buy you a pint in gratitude but I'll raise a toast when I start on the brew in a few weeks - really grateful, thanks

I had exactly the same problem with my youngs barrell

think it was the pressure release valve on the lid (have you injected co2) so i got it swapped out

turned out i had tightened the tap too much when trying to stop the leak and knackered the seal so swapped the barrell out too
(got it from wilko, they gave me a new beerkit and brewing sugar too cos i told em i had to tip the lot away)

I use PTFE tape on all the threads on my barrels and since doing that I've not had any leaks. I also use silicon spray instead of vasaline because oil based products perish the seals over time.
