Meantime IPA - any info?

Post by Ross » Mon Feb 02, 2009 11:31 am

Guys,

meantime IPA has to be one of my favourite commercial beers & fortunately we can get it here in aus, albeit bloody expensive.
Has any one got a recipe or some information (other than the MO, goldings, fuggles on the official site), to help brew something close?

cheers Ross

Did you ever find out anything Ross? Wouldn't mind the recipe if you found one.

I like this beer too. Often thought about trying to clone it. I need to taste it again but the £5 they want for a bottle is halfway to the malt i'd need for it..

Think they are going for a fancy market with a bottle like that and a steep price tag. I suppose you do get 750 instead of 500ml.

They're quite a friendly company. I used to live next to the Greenwich Meantime Pub and often see the bloke in there (Alastair Hook?) and he seemed quite an affable chap. Sounds patronising but has anyone tried emailing for a recipe?

Fermenting - I'm Done

Bottle Maturing - Hobgoblin, Fullers ESB, American Stout, TOP, Fullers London Porter, Bandini Black IPA

I've often wanted to try this, but cant justify spending a fiver on a bottle of beer

A fiver's nothing - I spent £12 on a bottle of this: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/118/40573 last xmas... Perhaps a little excessive....

Sainsburys have it in cheaper. The one in Kings Lynn has both the IPA and Porter for under £4 a 750ml bottle. It's on the online store too (Under Off Licence->Bitter and Ale->Ale->All Ales->page 3)

I spent all my money on AG stuff, and now I have 20 pound to last 5 weeks   . But I have plenty of bottles of beer to keep the hunger away! :D

Funnily enough I bought the same four bottles as you when I went down sainsbury's. Wasn't too impressed with their 3 for £4 offer, was secretly hoping to find the meantimes in the deal. I am thinking that I made need some more in stock though as the bottles would no doubt impress people. Can you reuse the corked ones?

Yeah, the bottles are really heavy duty. You can buy plastic champagne 'corks' for them from HB places that you can just jab in with a mallet.

Let us know what you think of the IPA Chris.
