Hi,
How tight are you all with the cap on the Youngs budget keg. I keep seeing hand tight or hand tight plus quarter. To me "hand tight" means as tight as you can get it by hand - right?
When I do this, the o-ring comes loose and I can't get a good seal. If I tighten just as much to start getting resistance and then another quarter, the ring stays in place and it seems to be airtight, although I do not yet know if it will slow leak.
Getting it REALLY tight seems pot-luck whether it will seal or not.
Any thoughts/experiences of this? Are your o-rings still in place when you remove the cap?
My two kegs+caps are new in case they changed the design.
I am using vaseline.
Thanks.

Re: How tight - cap on Budget Keg
its hard to say, all my kegs I just 'give them a bit' just very tight by hand but not til I'm blue in the face, they could go more.
Re: How tight - cap on Budget Keg
I don't have budget kegs, just a KK and a beersphere (alright, some may class that as budget). I tighten as far as I can before my hand would slip on the cap or before anything leaves "dents in my hands" - don't seem to have had any issues.

Re: How tight - cap on Budget Keg
Yeppers. I think PMH0810 just summed it up nicely for me too. I Do use 'BK's'. Don't know who makes them - never thought to look. They're just what they are.
As for tightening? See above. I've honestly never given it a moments thought before. I just screw the lid on till it stops screwing. Simple as that. I'm not 'The Incredible Hulk'. But I'm hardly limp wristed either. And I try to prove / disprove nothing to my keg caps. I just screw them on. Sort of 'Common sense' thing. One doesn't really think about it.
Adopt that attitude and I'm sure ye'll do fine
