stuck stout, or is that as low as its going?

Post by drmick » Mon Mar 09, 2009 7:54 pm

Hi All

put a batch of Coopers stout on last friday (10 days ago) with 1Kg Dark spray malt and 200g of sugar. It seems to have stopped at about 1012, it started at 1044. Does this seem about right, I've never used dark spray malt so don't know if it does finish at a higher gravity. Or should I rouse the yeast and see if it will drop further. However what I have sampled tastes quite nice.

Thanks

Drmick

Mine was 5 Days in the FV, FG was 1010 using 1KG of DSM and it started at 1036 so yours sounds pretty plausible :)

Thats reassuring then. I will give it until Wednesday as haven't got time to bottle/keg it tonight or tomorrow night and hope its alright - just a bit worried that if I bottle some and its going to go further that I will shower the whole house in glass and stout.

Cheers

Mine was with 1kg of dark spraymalt and finished at 1012, tasted great. I've got another to make up asap. :=P

Didn't manage to do anything with it on wednesday as originally planned, but checked it last night and its FG was still 1012, which reassuringly is what the rest of you have found - thanks for letting me know what yours got down to. So after a stressful 90 minutes sitting in a jam on the M25 last night it was a case of sterilise and keg/bottle. If I hadn't already said to a few people I will give them a bottle to try I would have kegged it all - but my word is more bond (sometimes) so I had to sterilise some bottles and fill them up as well.

Now have to wait a week to drink it - hopefully for the end of the six nations.

thanks

DrMick
