Brewferm kit doubling up

Post by jat147 » Mon Mar 16, 2009 9:46 pm

Howdy,

Having just finished the last of my Brewferm Abdij, I feel like making some more - quick =D>

So I went and got 2 kits - only 9L each is a bit small for 9 weeks work.
Here comes the stupid question....
To make a double sized batch, would you just double up all the ingredients?
...seems obvious, but would you need 2 packs of yeast for instance??

Anyone done this already?
thanks, Jat

Doubling up makes perfect sense! To be honest I couldn't see why, if a fan of this type of beer, that you wouldn't want to double up.
I would've thought one pack of Safale 04 would be fine, kit yeast? both wouldn't hurt.

If your going to brew to a good Belgian beer strength, then two yeasts i would think would be a definite.

I made a double Abbey kit for Xmas & have to say, it is literally a case of doubling every measure on the single kit i.e
2x Tins of extract
2x Hot water volume
2x Cold water volume
2x Sugar requirement
2x Yeast ie use BOTH packets of yeast supplied with the kits & deffo use the Brewferms yeast, as it's pukka Belgian yeast.

Mine fermented out in around a week (check temp as believe it likes around 20 degrees C), then I primmed with double the amout of priming sugar.

Owwwwww & the important bit, leave it for as long as you dare i.e at least 8 to 12 weeks.

Great beer ..........
