yes you could do that. the more sugar you use the higher the alcohol will be. however that is still quite a bit more sugar than malt so i would go with say 500g dry malt extract and 500g sugar or 750g dried malt extract and 250g sugar depending on what your brewing and have much body and maltyness you want. you could also do 1kg dried malt extract and 500g sugar.adding too much sugar can make a brew thin though so dont add too much.

You can substitute malt for sugar in the kit but aim to end up with the same total weight. Best results will be had if you replace all of the sugar with malt.

Putting extra sugar/malt in a kit will increase the alcohol but will probably turn the beer into undrinkable rocket fuel. If you want stronger beer from a kit then make the kit up as per the instructions but add less water so the kit makes, say, 30 or 35 pints rather than 40 pints.

boingy spot on imo lenny - less water is the way if you want more out of a kit. i've done most of the available stout kits to standard recipe and found that the best results came when adding malt/hops. Did a Young's Harvest stout with beer kit enhancer and Goldings hops back in 07 and it was excellent. In fact, just reminded myself to do the exact same customisation for dispense from corny under n2/co2.
