Pants, I've had no probs with Essentially Hops and The Hop Shop (not the homebrew one).

I've ordered my hop roots (cant really call them plants) and was wondering what was the best thing to do with them once they arrive.

I'm not sure where they are going yet so was going to put them in pots until springtime. Would the pots be best kept in the greenhouse (just above freezing) or are they better left outside to stay dormant with the cooler weather ?

OK... so maybe it comes from getting a kick out of licking the terminals of a PP3 battery as a kid. Or maybe theres a sick side to me that had to do it. But I ordered my hops from *waits for MA to do a couple of back flips* Aplus Hops

Yes, afer the pain and torture that MA endured I decided that part of me wanted to experience this service.

I ordered the hops on the 4th December and guess what ?

THEY ARRIVED TODAY !! :o  =D>

That gives me a real problem though. I havent sorted out their final locations so it looks like theyre into a pot over winter and into the ground next spring.

Anyway, credit where credit is due - not a bad delivery time, considering Christmas and all.

Well that just takes the pi55.
Maybe it was the wrong time of year for me to have bought them.
They should change there website so you know that you might have to wait. It should read "We are taking orders for the October harvest" n not take money until then. Would i have had to wait until October if i had bought them in June? Most probably.

I received a mail from A plus last week asking me to contact them to confirm my order, a mere 90 days or so behind the request. That's funny as f**k! =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

Finally had my order processed by A Plus. In the end i went for the following
1No. Prima Donna B.R. @ £7.00
1No. Progress B.R. @ £5.00
1No. Brambling Cross B.R. @ £5.00
1No. Northdown B.R.@ £5.00

I've got a couple of areas in the garden where i can plant for sun but sheltered from the wind etc. I can't believe its taken since November to get this far. My own fault i suppose as i didn't chase at all as other projects on the go.

i wouldnt worry too much, they wouldnt have needed to go in the ground till now.

as for a-plus hops, i warned people last year, they are shit.

As seen in Hop Growing 2009:
I ordered two bare-root Fuggles plants from Aplus Hops on Sunday the 8th of March, and they arrived on Wednesday the 11th! I was a bit taken-aback when Aplus had taken ages for other people on here. Maybe it depends on the time of year, as to whether they have stock ready to send out or whether it's all still in the ground. I remember someone ordering in August and having to wait weeks.
I reckon they must have lost PM's order down the back of the desk...

I was surprised they got back to me at all, must have been a long climb up the back of the sofa! I throw down the gauntlet to any other Northern Scottish people. How many plants will be left alive at the end of a Scottish Summer? I asked last year and nobody seemed to be growing hops Much North of Glasgow. I have 4 seperate areas in the garden for these plants. A big back of chickenwaste and straw on standby with a mate and some polythene tube ideas with plastic trellis. By the end of the year i expect to have 2 plants left alive and maybe some hops off them next year. That is of course if A plus come across and deliver them next week as arranged......

PM - let us know if yours come up OK? My hops from A-plus have been in the ground for nearly a month, and no sign of anything.
