Bubbles when syphoning
Bubbles when syphoning
Hello everyone I'm new to all this and am a bit worried about my recent transfer from brewing bin to barrel. I brewed some youngs scotch heavy and today syphoned it into the barrel, however when i was syphoning it I noticed quite alot of bubbles inside the tube and every now and then a faint gurgle type noise. The tube was fully submerged at both ends and there is definatly know leak in it. Half way through the syphoning it just stopped. I tried it again and this time there was no air bubbles or gurgle noise. The fact that it was clear quick and quiet the second time then made me worry about the bubbles the first time around. should i be worried about this? And does it mean anything for my brew? Thanks evryone, this forum has already been a great help to me.
Re: Bubbles when syphoning
The chances are that the bubbles You saw were CO2 coming out of solution.
I find that normally happens when using a dry tube rather than one that has been wetted first.
Nowt to worry about I should imagine.

Re: Bubbles when syphoning
It would depend on how much of this "air" you saw. I've had a few occasions where I've been transferring from primary to keg/bottles and it's been pulling in air at the FV side of the tap. The beer has been fine but I would have thought that for long storage I may have had a problem. The chances are your ok as some yeast would have still been in suspension anyway and this should clean up a small amount of o2 anyway.
