How long in Kegs. (keeping qualities)

Post by frederick » Fri Apr 17, 2009 10:39 am

Hi all... as a very raw beer maker (3 brews so far) I am amazed at the number of brews in kegs that many members have fermenting or ready to drink. I would dearly love to have a few choices to drink but my intake (for what its worth) is about one pint a day which means that a 36 pint brew will last me about 7/8 months. As I am led to believe that a brew in a pressure barrel is ok for about 6 months it would be a bit dodgy having more than one brew on the go at a time.....or am I wrong ? At my intake could I have say 2/3 brews in pressure barrels at one time with safety.

Help would be very much appreciated.... Frederick

As a general guide, a brew in a pressure barrel will slowly improve for around 6 months, then slowly detiorate afterwards.

Oh dear.....just what the smoke was wrong with me... I reckon my calculations were so far out I must have been drunk !!! Now lets start again... a 36 pint brew at half to one pint a day gives me approx. a consumption time of about one to two months. This means I can have about three brews to sample and that would be ok. I am thinking of trying a Barley wine. One of my favourite pub brews is Old Peculier.....in small doses of course. Is there any home brew that comes anywhere near that. I will be grateful if someone can advise me on that.
Many thanks and sorry for the boo boo... I am sober now..... Frederick
