Here goes
My first brew for a few months but I have 2 empty cornies and less than half a cornie of stout left, so it looks like I will be have a couple more brew days soon.
Thanks to Horden Hillbilly for the answer to my recipe query. I have tweaked it a little
25ltr
5kg Marris Otter
180g Light Crystal
100g Wheat Malt
36g First Gold 60min
16g First Gold 15min
20g First Gold 85deg Steep
Mashed @ 66deg
The mash has another 20min to go so the boiler is back on for the sparge water.
Pics to follow.....

Re: First Gold Pale Ale
Is your that your Boiler as well Chris and is it a hot water tank with the top cut off? If so how is it working out for you? Not seen anybody using one before and very curious.

Bottle Maturing - Hobgoblin, Fullers ESB, American Stout, TOP, Fullers London Porter, Bandini Black IPA

Re: First Gold Pale Ale
The HLT doubles up as a boiler, once I have mashed, the first part of the batch sparge is run off into the fermeter at the bottom, the second lot of sparge water is then run into the mashtun and the first runnings are then transfered into what now becomes the boiler.
Yes the boiler does look a little rustic, I initially made it ith a view to being able to do a boil sufficient for a 2 cornie brewlength, but batch sparging with a coolbox mashtun limits the brewlength to approx 27-28ltr. I may cut some off the height and stick with a 27ltr brewlength (just right for a cornie plus a few bottles) Once I decide what I am doing I will probably hammer the top over to make a lip and then lag it with strips of wood.

Re: First Gold Pale Ale
The brew has been put to bed now, I actually overshot my volume as I may have been a little cautious with values I entered into the batch sparge calculator. I ended up with 27ltrs+ at 1043.
Re: First Gold Pale Ale
Well its been quite active, after trying to escape throught the airlock it has settled down a bit and it is now down to 1014 so it looks like I will be putting it into a cornie and bottles early next week!
