First Kit Bottled

Well, I bottled my first brew tonight (Woodfordes Wherry). I was a bit worried on thursday last week when it seemed to have stopped fermenting, but was only at about 1020. Anyway moved it to somewhere slightly warmer, gently roused it and wrapped a thick winter coat around it. By monday it was down to 1014, and the same today, so got it bottled - Thanks to J_P for most of the bottles!

It took longer than I'd anticipated, but that was partly down to using an old capper of my dads (the type that you need to use a hammer with). Next item to purchase is a proper capper!!

Just got to wait now to try it!

I've got the 2-handled hand capper that is OK, but if I were more knowing at the start I would have bought a bench capper

a bench capper is the way forward. anyone know of a good supplier in the uk?

Nice one mate. Nothing better than your first bottling. I felt a real sense of achievement (altho the mrs didnt share my feeling)

Ill sing the praise for the 2 handled capper. I have one. The initial problem I had was the bottle slipped occasionally on the kitchen work top. That was remedied by sticking the bottle on a dry tea towel. Now its a smooth production ride. Been a tight yorkshireman i couldnt justify the £27 for the bench capper.

i think a bench capper could be worth the extra as the 2 handled one does not work on wychwood bottles so have had to fill recycling bin up with them and i hate to see good bottles going to waste

Well, I've now tried a couple of bottles of this, and it was very nice (although i'm hoping that it will get better once its been left a little longer). I have a feeling that i will have it all before it has chance to get to its best though.

Now got to decide what kit to do next... Although having read numerous posts on here, I am very tempted to start getting equipment together for AG.

who found out that leaving bottles to mature makes them better i cant leave mine alone long enough to chill in the fridge never mind leaving for twelve weeks
