cresta pale ale mashing now
cresta pale ale mashing now
ive got my latest offering to the brewing world mashing at the moment , i said to hop and grape that i was brewing today and needed my grain by then, nothing had turned up yesterday so this morning i cleaned everything and got the liquor up to temp in the boiler. just as it hit the magic mark the doorbell rings and there is my grain. fair play to them.
todays recipe is:
7lb pale malt
3/4 lb demerara sugar
2oz hallertau hops
1 1/4 oz goldings hops
nice and simple now its going to mash for 3 hours!

I was impressed with Hop and Grape when I used them a few weeks ago. When I phoned they were up front and said there was a backlog however I told them when I was planning to brew and they made sure it arrived on time. I'll certainly use them again when I want to make something that requires ingredients that my local shop doesn't stock.
Thats quite interesting using demerera sugar in a Pale Ale. How much do you expect this to effect the colour?

oh bugger! the problem with a 3 hour mash is that you get bored, then you look at something like youtube, then you get transfixed by this black girl shaking her ..... well you forget the time anyway and dont check the temp. my mash has been too high for the last half an hour (about 73 deg) so now ive added some cold water and will have to wait even longer .
serves me right.
