Wheat Beer Kits. Any Recommendations?

Post by Tramorak » Wed Apr 29, 2009 1:29 pm

Thinking about making a start on my third brew and want to go for something different.

Got a Milestone IPA cold conditioning (although the one I sampled tasted pretty good) and a Coopers Real Ale Warm conditioning, so I figure it is time to do a beer that is more in the style that SWMBO likes.

I have seen a few wheat beer kits online, but was wondering if anyone has had any success or failure with any of them?

I am also thinking of adding some raspberries to attempt to replicate Milestone Rasberry Wheat Beer which is probably her all time favourite beer. (Also because we have a load of them in the freezer).

As always I am open to suggestions from those with more (or less) experience.

Cheers.

Dave.

I would give the Coopers wheat kit a go and top it up with wheat spraymalt. Never tried it but Coopers make high quality stuff for a good price. If Brupaks do one i'd take a look at that too.

I would also recommend the coopers kit. I wouldnt worry too much about using wheat spray malt as its only 40% wheat and can leave the brew a little too malty.

the brewferm wheat beer is very nice, needs a reasonable amount of conditioning but its very tasty and definitely worth making.

I brewed a batch of the coopers wheat beer with 1kg of wheat spraymalt a while ago. I'm going to try a bottle this weekend so if you can wait I'll let you know what it's like.

the munton's kit is cack. Not suited to my pallette at all, and nothing like a wheat beer i've ever had - avoid

ive just done the Coopers Brewmaster wheat beer made with dme and highly recommend it, very nice tasting indeed. I wasnt impressed with the levels of carbonation achieved in my top tap keg though so if you like your wheat beer fizzier more like a lager like i do then i would highly recommend bottling, or cornie if you have them.

Cheers
