Opinions on Fixby Gold??
I've just got a Brupaks Fixby Gold in the FV, added some extra First Gold hops and a little Pale Chocolate & Crystal malts (just a little, while I was boiling the hops).
Anyone brewed one lately, whats it like?

unfortunatly mine got stuck, think I finally got it down to 1018 from memory. It has a nice colour and was pretty smooth, but if I did it again I would probably use some yeast vit. Fingers crossed you have a better experience with it.

Re: Opinions on Fixby Gold??
I've already given it about 3/4 of a teaspoon of Yeast Nutrient while making it up, if the kit yeast hasn't started by the morning I'll probably sprinkle some s-04 on it or make a starter for it.
Re: Opinions on Fixby Gold??
Mine is two weeks in the bottles and I tried one the other night, it's pretty good : I added some elderflower to it and boiled the hops for about 15 minutes.
At this stage I would say it's quite like the Great Eastern was, which was exactly what I was looking for as the shop I bought it in didnt have any Great Eastern left....
Quite quaffabe with some citrus (grapefruit?) notes, quite hoppy too.
Think mine fell to 1012 but took about two weeks to ferment!

Good work. I did mine in preperation for christmas, so the variable temp may have had something to do with it. Even though it was a bit sweet for me, my girlfirend's brother polished it off!Its fermenting away nicely this morning @ 20ËšC

Re: Opinions on Fixby Gold??
I've only got a Coopers Brewmaster IPA and a Coopers Dark Ale kit left to brew then I'll be Extract brewing
I'm looking forward to these kits though.

Re: Opinions on Fixby Gold??
If your planning to go to extract you may as well go the whole hog and move to all grain. IMHO there is too much kit bashing from the all grainers, but the best beer I have made has been all grain. It’s a steeper learning curve, my first 3 or 4 attempts where pretty average but like most things you get better at it with practise. You can always go back, I have made a couple of kits of lager for the summer. Funnily enough the last kit before I made the move was fixby gold …..

Re: Opinions on Fixby Gold??
I'm already starting Extract, I've done 2 brews so far, and Extract version of Hop Back Entire Stout which is conditioning (a sneaky taste or two says its going to be a beauty!!) and a home cooked Bramling Cross IPA which is still in the FV. Should be bottled on Wednesday
I have the boiler and hop strainer sorted, I just need to get a coil of copper pipe and some hose pipe for an immersion cooler
(I already have a unused Thermos Cool box at my parents house so as soon as I have the space for it I'll be going AG.
