Primed my Coopers Real ale after 3 days at 1008, primed with 80g of sugar, put it in the barrel (budget one from wilko)1 day ago. This morning i've got a bulging barrel and ale dripping out of the seal around the tap. I've had to let all the pressure out of the barrel and I wont be using it again, thank god I had it standing on a bath towell. what I can't understand is, if the pressure had got too much, why did it not release from the valve rather than misshaping the barrel and making it blow beer from the tap? my answer, I fear is that is what you get for buying budget.
Bottom Line is, it can't be trusted and it won't be used again. bottles for me from now on...
I'm gutted about this because the ale was tasting really nice already and I'm worried all this fannying about with it is going to upset the final outcome.
will I have to re-prime when I transfer it to bottles and should I mix the sediment back up so that the priming sugars have something to 'go at'?
cheers
