Speed Brewing!

Post by thebronsonite » Tue May 05, 2009 9:14 am

Hi there,

This is my first post and it will be my second brew! So, hi to everyone on the boards. My first brew (Lager) tasted good, but wasn't carbonated so I'm hoping to do better this time round!

I've got a stag weekend on the 22nd - 25th of May this year and I was planning to brew a batch of beer for my mate. However, I've run out of time due to exam commitments and laziness/stupidity! I have a Lager and a Pilsner kit. Is there any chance I can brew and bottle a batch in time?

I have a heating band that I think should speed the process up (?), but I have serious doubts over getting it ready to drink by then.

Does anyone have any insight or tips for me?

Thanks in advance, Ian

That doesn't sound like long enough to let it clear and mature.
Best wishes

Thanks for the advice. I might as well make a batch and if it doesn't clear in time, I'll have something to look forward to when I return.

I suppose I can always give some as a wedding gift, then again, I could drink it...

Hi thebronsonite
Coopers Stout is a great kit that ferments in about 5 days and can be drunk almost straight away. I make it, put it in a barrel and start drinking it a few days later. You have plenty of time to make one of these bad boys up and impress your friends. they are easy and I've never heard of one going wrong. It tastes great, not heavy like some stouts. Most prefer to use 1kg of spraymalt.

Hi thebronsonite
Just keep it simple. Follow the instructions. 1 can of Coopers Stout and 1kg of Medium Spray malt. use the Coopers Yeast its good. Only fill FV upto 20 litres. it may over flow within the 1st 24 hrs. If you want you can top it up after a few days or leave it at 20l.
Keep it simple - If in doubt, search on here under - Ditch Coopers Stout - You'll get all the answers. keep this post going. let us know how it goes.

If I have time to do two, I'll try one of each!

The only difference between medium and dark spraymalt is the colour. And that wouldn't be noticeable in a stout.
