Hydro readings

Post by gaztop » Fri May 15, 2009 1:57 pm

Brewers,

I took a hydro reading yesterday. It was 1.016. I thought ny brew was coming to the end of the fermenting stage. Today's hydro reading was bewtween 1.018-1.020!

Both readings were accurate and the same temperature.

Can gravity readings go back up? Does this mean fermentation is still occuring?
I can't see many bubbles if any at all.

I was hoping to get the FG at 1.012, should I pitch some more yeast as there is obviously sugars still around.

1) Parallax error?

2) A guess: If you have a tap and use your hydrometer in a sample jar, maybe a lump of sediment came through and got broken and resuspended. As sediment must be denser than beer that would increase the gravity.
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

I would agree, also make sure there's no foam near it, and remember to give it a good spin, to shake of any bubbles that might be clinging???? :)
